In a small village in eastern France, a few kilometers from the German zone, four women find themselves thrown into the heart of the horror: Marguerite, a Parisian prostitute as mysterious as she is flamboyant, who is suspected of being a spy; Caroline, wife of Victor Dewitt, owner of a car factory, who has left for the front. She is propelled to the head of the family business, a colossal and unprecedented challenge for a woman at the beginning of the century; Agnes, Mother Superior of a convent requisitioned and transformed into a military hospital. Overwhelmed by the influx of wounded, Agnes is increasingly tormented and questions her life choices; and Suzanne, a young feminist nurse wanted for murder... The story in a few lines:
Chanteloube Wood. The body of Antoine Noiret, an eminent professor of oncology, is found in the Mare au Diable. Ritual signs found around the pond suggest that the victim had been sacrificed during a Sabbath, a witchcraft ceremony. Was it a real human sacrifice or a tragic overflow of a cultural event organized by local artists? For Basile Tissier, a policeman in Bourges sent to investigate as an observer, the investigation begins in the heart of the Berrichonne countryside, the one he grew up in and which he has fled. A countryside where rationality competes with the irrationality of magnetizers and witch doctors, and where George Sand has left her lasting mark. Fortunately, he can count on the help and clairvoyance of Solène Durel, a country doctor, who knows the local people well but also... The victim.

This new collaboration with TF1 offers Netflix "an additional opportunity to give worldwide visibility to an ambitious and high-quality French fiction". "This unusual upstream agreement shows that we can find ingenious financing solutions to showcase French excellence, while bringing pleasure to our members in 190 countries," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix's content manager. This alliance marks a turning point in the production of French content where it is the first time Netflix has pre-financed an original series initiated by a French broadcaster or production company. Ara Aprikian, TF1's Director of Programming, said that this "link reflects a shared ambition around the Bonfire of Destiny, a blockbuster production in resolutely modern French costumes".

According to a Mediamétrie study, French national dramas have broken audience records against their American rivals.
On the small screen, French fiction largely dominated its American rival in 2016. Among the ten best fiction audiences of the year nine were French, including the top seven. This is what a Médiamétrie study published on Thursday reveals. The trend is therefore on the rise since the previous year, seven national dramas were included in the same ranking. In 2014, the number was down to six and in 2013 to five.
Compared to other programs, tricolor fiction also stands out: out of the fifty best TV audiences, 20 programs were French fiction against 15 in 2015, 2 in 2014 and 0 in 2012.
In spite of the Olympic Games and the soccer Euro, French fiction has even outstripped sports - with 13 programs in the top 50 TV ratings for the year. For ten national dramas, the audience bar even exceeded six million viewers. This is the case for The Secret of Elise on TF1 for example, with an average of 8,3 million viewers, or Flic tout simplement which brought in 6,5 million viewers.
According to a survey conducted last December, French people highly appreciate French fiction because it is perceived as realistic and tackling social issues, with series such as Plus Belle La Vie (France 3) or Clem (TF1). More than a quarter of the French (29,4%) also want more French fiction in the grids and 4 out of 10 consider that there are too many US fictions, according to the same survey.
